Background
Enables catalase activity. Involved in several processes, including response to L-ascorbic acid; response to ozone; and response to vitamin E. Located in extracellular space and peroxisomal matrix. Used to study brain ischemia; cholestasis; colitis; and lung disease (multiple). Biomarker of several diseases, including alcohol use disorder; artery disease (multiple); auditory system disease (multiple); eye disease (multiple); and neurodegenerative disease (multiple). Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including acatalasia; eye disease (multiple); lung disease (multiple); osteonecrosis; and pseudoxanthoma elasticum. Orthologous to human CAT (catalase).
